Tobias & Comer Law, LLC Presents ‘Tri the Gulf ‘ Triathlon on October 16

The 6th annual “Tri the Gulf” Triathlon is back! After a two-year hiatus due to Hurricane Nestor in 2019 and COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, the event is set for Saturday, October 16 on Dauphin Island. Registration is now closed, but find out how to volunteer or visit the island to watch the race at www.trithegulf.org.

The Isle Dauphine Club will be the transition area of the event. “Tri the Gulf” is a Sprint Triathlon consisting of: (1) a 600-yard swim in Pelican Bay (the Gulf inlet immediately adjacent to the Club), (2) a 16.7-mile bike ride on the Island and the Dauphin Island Bridge, and (3) a 3.1 mile run along adjacent streets, the Island’s pedestrian trail along Bienville Boulevard, and fairway of the Isle Dauphine Golf Club.

“Tri the Gulf” is presented by Tobias & Comer Law, LLC Law Firm and hosted by the Mobile Bar Foundation. Other key sponsors include Roberts Brothers Realty, WindCreek Casinos, Infirmary Health Systems, Inc. and the Mobile Sports Authority.

“Tri the Gulf” is the Mobile Bar Foundation’s largest fundraiser, enabling over $330,000 in local charity funding since inception of the event in 2016. “We are delighted this event enables us to award grants to so many worthwhile organizations which will have a direct, positive impact on our community,” said Bryan Comer, President of the Mobile Bar Foundation. In the last year the event was held (2018), over $70,000 in grant funds were distributed to non-profit agencies. Those agencies included Adoption Rocks, Assistance League Mobile, Child Advocacy Center, Dwell Mobile, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama, Ransom Ministries, Volunteer Guardian Program, Legal Services Alabama, and South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program.

A nod of special recognition goes to all the volunteers, including the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Foundation and the Sheriff’s Flotilla, and the City of Orange Beach and City of Gulf Shores Lifeguards in appreciation for their tireless work every year with the triathlon, ensuring safety for all the participants. “Each year our volunteers are instrumental in making the triathlon a success for the participants,” said Don Davis, Race Director for the triathlon. “Their safety is paramount to us. In addition, the unique landscape that Dauphin Islands provides, makes it a memorable experience for our triathletes.”

The triathlon is truly a WIN-WIN-WIN event. It benefits Dauphin Island from a tourism standpoint at a time when the Island has fewer visitors. It benefits thousands of needy, underprivileged persons in the Mobile – Southwest Alabama area. AND, it promotes good health and is a family-oriented event.
